1.Search the diphthongs in youtube and listen to them.
2. What a diphthong is?
3. What are diphthongs in english?
4. What is Pitch?
5. What is the word stress?
6. Make a list of diphthongs with 5 examples for each one.
7. Write 8  sentences using the words you added  as examples. (1 sentence for each diphthong)
8. Ask a person you don't know to read the sentences you did.   Record  him/her and set up the analysis.

analysis:
1. The participant says ____ so, he/she matches or dismatches the diphthong _____.
2. The stress in the sentence is appropiate or inappropiate.
3. If it is appropiate you may say that the Pitch is increasing in the first vowel and decreasing in the second vowel.
If it is not appropiate you must point it out, you must say that the participant uses the vowel ___ instead of the diphthong.

  1. GENERAL OBJECTIVE.

 

At the end of the course, the students will be able, among other things, to understand and reflect on the basic concepts related with Phonetics and Phonology, and how they can be connected to generate an improvement of pronunciation of the English Language, not only for them, but for their future students, by generating a virtual product (Website) that demonstrates their ability to share their new knowledge to others, using ICTs.

 

  1. SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES.

 

On successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

1. Identify the differences between Phonetics and Phonology.

2. Explain the airstream process and the production of sounds.

3. Identify the IPA symbols, their corresponding sounds and the way those sounds are classified.

4. Identify how the English consonant and vowel sounds are produced and classified.

5. Reflect on how the process of syllabication and intonation can influence the message of oral texts.

7. Analyze the intonation patterns, in order to evaluate their speaking performance.

8. Evaluate their autonomous learning process.

9. Display in a creative way the products of the course in a website.

 

  1. AREA DISCUSSION PROBLEM           

 

Which are the phonetic and phonological aspects, the pre-service English teachers must work on, in order to get acquainted with the production of speech sounds and improve their pronunciation in English and at the same time to help others improve it?

 

6.            COURSE DISCUSSION ISSUES.

 

·         What are the differences between phonetics and phonology?

·         How do humans produce speech sounds?

·         How are the speech sounds represented?

·         How is the English sound system conformed?

 

7.            COMPETENCES.

 

Pre-service teachers must develop the following competences:

·         Good autonomous learning habits, reinforced with good verbal communication.

·         Awareness of innovative instructional methods which include information technologies.

·         Reflect about the best transformative educational learning and teaching methods.

·         Apply new knowledge to daily life in order to improve pronunciation.

·         Ability to transmit new knowledge to others.

 

8.            ACTIVITIES.

 

Students will design a website, which will be their course project. In it, they will display the products of each one of the sessions, according to the topic presented.
